Makeup is an art, a tool for self-expression, and a confidence booster. But even the most skilled artist needs a good canvas. That's where proper skin prep comes in. Today, we'll dive into the essential steps for preparing your face for makeup, and then explore three distinct makeup looks, from natural to dramatic.
The Foundation: Skin Prep is Key
Before you even think about brushes and palettes, your skin needs to be primed and ready. A well-prepped face ensures your makeup applies smoothly, lasts longer, and looks its best.
Cleanse: Start with a gentle cleanser suitable for your skin type. This removes dirt, oil, and any residual makeup.
Exfoliate (2-3 times a week): Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, creating a smooth surface. Over-exfoliating can irritate the skin, so adjust frequency based on your skin's needs.
Tone: A toner helps balance your skin's pH, removes any remaining impurities, and prepares your skin for moisturizer.
Hydrate: This is crucial! Apply a moisturizer that suits your skin type. Oily skin needs a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer, while dry skin benefits from a richer, hydrating cream.
Eye Cream: Don't forget your delicate under-eye area. Apply a hydrating eye cream to prevent creasing and dryness.
Primer: A primer creates a smooth base for your foundation, fills in pores, and helps your makeup stay put. Choose a primer based on your skin's needs (e.g., mattifying for oily skin, hydrating for dry skin).
Lip Balm: Apply a hydrating lip balm to keep your lips soft and smooth.
